Early life

Houser was born to music i nLake, Mississippi with a professional musician as a father. Having music in his life may have spurred Houser to pick up and teach himself the guitar so he could front his own band by age 10. Then, while attending East Central Community College in Decatur, Mississippi, he formed a band that was called 10 lb. Biscuit.

Early Career

Then in 2002, Houser moved to Nashville to begin a career as a songwriter. One of his first hits as a songwriter was the “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” which he co-wrote with Jamey Johnson and Dallas Davidson. The song was recorded by Trace Adkins for his 2005 album and became a top 5 single. 

This success led to Houser shifting his focus on performing, so he started doing gigs locally in Nashville. He was then briefly signed to MCA Nashville but did not release anything at the time.

But then he signed on with Universal South Records in 2008, and released his first single, “Anything Goes” in May 2008. David Letterman heard the song on the radio and invited Houser to perform it on the Late Show with David Letterman in August. 

This helped launch the single into the top 40 of the Billboard country chart that same month and helped his debut album, which was released in November. Especially as the single made it to the top 20 by then.

Houser later received two nominations for the 2009 CMA Awards, including New Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year for “Boots On”.
